# update = as of 2021 this colour is still not recognised in the APS* for Orpingtons
* Australian Poultry Standard
the Cuckoo pattern can be either
Blue and Grey barring
or
Blue and White barring
Grey barring preferred
both sexes = the pattern must be either of the mentioned colour variants with feathers in all sections crossed their entire length by irregular Blue and Grey or Blue and White bars, the tip of each feather must be Blue
the feather shaft is preferred to be dark slate but paler shades of slate allowed
a white shaft is to be considered a fault
Excellence to be determined by the distinct contrasts with an overall blending of the sections.
The female is to display an even medium but tending towards a medium/dark Blue with Grey or White barring over the entire body = Grey preferred
The male to be no more than one shade lighter than the female
Males hackles and saddles to display a slightly deeper Blue colour than that of the body
Plumage faults = no brassiness, bronzing, yellow or orange (or any variations of these) in any feathers allowed -
white feather shafts
Eyes, Comb, Face, Wattles and Earlobes - red
Shanks - white with some slate mottling allowed, must not display any redness to the skin of the shanks or feet
Beak, Skin, Feet, Sole of Foot - white
Toenails must be white
Type (body shape overall) MUST conform to the Orpington Standard
if the bird exhibits traits not corresponding closely with the Orpington Type/Standard it should be considered
not a good Orpington
