Breed Chart developed for making related and semi-related lines.
by the Cuckoo Stud
This can be used for any colour/breed, but was developed for the making of several Cuckoo lines during the mid to late 60s
It is a basic chart and many have used it with success over the years. Chart explanation below.

This can be used for any colour/breed, but was developed for the making of several Cuckoo lines during the mid to late 60s
It is a basic chart and many have used it with success over the years. Chart explanation below.
A = Black/Black carrying Cuckoo and C = Cuckoo
It shows in colour the SAME birds (generationally) to be used and where – this would give you genetically related lines X 7 to start forming your own ‘Lines’ with.
I understand it and have probably not written it out well enough to cover the need for the Black carrying Cuckoo but the only ‘pure’ Black used is (if possible) AFa – and if needed due to lack of carrying Cuckoo birds = AF
At the end of the day
Lines 1 & 2 are related but only ‘technically’ related to lines 4 & 7 and lines 3, 5 & 6 are related to both sides
You could (after following this chart) then blend
Line 1 to Line 2
Line 4 to Line 7
To give 2 foundation lines that are from related birds but ‘technically’ not related to the opposing line (dependant on what you have re Black/Black carrying Cuckoo)
Line 3 to Line 5 (forming a closely related line) this part is essential as this line can be used with both other lines
Also this line gives a good indicator of what to expect from both sides
Line 6 is the experimental line or delete the excess line entirely
Giving 3 distinct ‘solid’ Lines to work with
Now = you can put AFa to CMk or CML as an after thought to bring up the depth of the pattern if needed on that side =
There is only the original infusion of AFa at the first mating on the CFa side (right hand side) and she is infused again with CMb on the left – AF is only used the 3 times at correct intervals to boost Type (so she needs to be as perfect as possible) – AM is used 2 times but as you can see only at junctions to give depth back to the Cuckoo colouring – you will need to keep these birds for 4-5 generations to use this chart
If the Cuckoo fades too much too early = substitute in place of a Cuckoo bird = AF /AFa / AFc or the AM depending on the line at your discretion to increase the depth of colour
Line 6 would be an extra Line if you wanted it for experimenting with and being related to all sides would give a good indicator of what to expect from all sides
No promises this chart will work as Mother Nature always has the final say, but it does give you something to think about regards a possibility of how to proceed.
Of course I would have to say that if anyone had any ideas from any sources that they feel more comfortable with – use them instead.
